It would be as if football (soccer) players had to play half their games with home town clubs in order to play for the national team in the world cup.
Also, people like myself, W2GD, W7EJ, N6TJ, W4PA, K4BAI, CT1BOH, et al don't go to DX locations to "up their scores." We go there to compete on a world level against the best. We are seeking greater competition not less.
I find the theory that operating as DX makes it easier to qualify without merit. In fact, only one of the people above qualified as a team leader based on the 2006 scoring critera.(Disclaimer, K4BAI qualifed after others dropped out, and
CT1BOH did not apply)

Why not just have the best 50 operators in the world as team leaders ...PERIOD. If you don't think this is fair because people like W2GD and W2SC etc.. go on DXpeditions to up their scores then do what you have to do if you really want to go to WRTC. Go on a DXpedition to up your score.
I really never understood why this whole team selection has to be based on your geographical location anyway...
