Rich
I don't know what brought that on. I did not claim to be better than
anyone, in fact many of the calls on my list I have never beaten.
I was responding to the specific claim that winning from the DX side was
a way to lower the bar of entry. In fact one poster commented about the
ease of winning a certain DX area 8 times with a trivially low score.
My point was that, if that was the easy way in, the field would be
dominated with TL's who took that route, which is not the case. There
are many ways in, some easier than others, but all with a high bar. I
am simply arguing that all normalized points should count.
However, I stand by the broader competition comment. When I used to DX
contest from W1, it was mostly a regional affair. Great ops like VE3EJ
were in a different country and N6MJ was on the opposite coast so I
never got to compete against them. The local competition consisted of
great ops, who beat me more than I would have liked, but it was the same
guys at the same stations every time. The appeal of DX operating is
that is more ops, different ops, all around the world. This gave me a
chance to compete against W2GD, OH2BH, YL2KL, YT1AD, 4L5A, CT1BOH and
countless others. Are these ops universally better than the others who
stay home? They are not and I apologize if I implied that they were.
Thank you for pointing out my overstatement.
I should add that my agitating for lifting the 4 DX rule is not entirely
in my best interest. It looks like my lease in 8P will not be renewed
after this year so I will not get in my 8 contests from there.
73, Tom W2SC

Oh ho ho ho...
You should note that the winner of the last WRTC - VE3EJ and VE7ZO do
most all of their contesting from the USA and Canada - as opposed to
trotting all over the world. Same with the #2 WRTC team - N6MJ and
N2NL. Dan usually does most of his contesting in San Diego.
So, please check your ego at the door.
Have a wonderful day and very 73
